Introduction
Amulet, a leading UK security company, hosted its annual awards ceremony, the Amulets, at RCP London Events in September. The event recognised exceptional contributions by employees, many of whom go above and beyond their duties in high-risk environments. The Amulets 2024 aimed to create a special and memorable experience for the 120 attendees, and the RCP London Events in-house AV team was tasked with bringing this vision to life, with a particular emphasis on AV elements and creative light installations.
Venue and set-up
The event was hosted in the venue’s Osler & Long Room, which offers flexibility for both dinners and receptions. This elegant space was complemented by access to the Dorchester Library and the rest of the venue, giving the client the freedom to craft an immersive experience for their guests.
Given the nature of the awards, it was critical for the RCP team to provide an environment that matched the significance of the occasion, emphasising recognition and celebration. The RCP London Events AV team alongside the client’s creative lead collaborated to devise an AV plan that would make the night truly extraordinary.
Projection mapping
The standout feature of the event was an innovative projection mapping display on the iconic façade of William Harvey House, opposite RCP London Events and overlooking the venue's Medicinal Garden. As guests entered the Osler & Long Room, they were greeted with a mesmerising video highlights showcase from the previous year’s awards ceremony. The projection was a novel unique concept for RCP London Events.
The outdoor projection caught the attention of attendees, who gathered by the windows to watch the vibrant footage, setting a celebratory tone as they entered the venue. This feature not only showcased the talents of the security officers being honored but also heightened the sense of occasion by immersing guests in the visuals from the moment they arrived.
Lighting: adding drama and flair
Another pivotal component was the lighting installation. RCP London Events’ AV team took the client’s request for a dramatic effect as winners were announced and expanded upon it to create a dynamic, synchronised light show. Using moving-head projectors, the team installed spotlights along the balcony above the stage, providing an added layer of drama as each award recipient was called to the front. These lights, synced with music cues, came to life at key moments during the ceremony, ensuring that the honorees’ achievements were celebrated in style.
Additionally, rear projection screens were set up to ensure that all guests, regardless of their position in the room, had a clear view of the event proceedings. Two large relay screens were also installed at the back of the room, offering close-up footage of the ceremony for those seated further away.
To further elevate the atmosphere, LED uplighters were strategically placed around the room, bathing the space in soft, ambient light. This, combined with the light show and projection mapping, transformed the Osler & Long Room into a vibrant and immersive environment.
“Working with the creative lead from Amulet was exciting for me and our AV team, as it allowed us to stretch our capabilities and use our in-house experience and technology in a way that truly created a beautiful takeaway for the award winners, whilst matching the vision of Amulet. We listened to the brief and created solutions that had not been achieved before at RCP London Events. We collaborated with the client at every stage for approval to ensure we delivered that vision on the day - always with the award winners in mind”
