In the busy world of event planning and management, finding moments to connect and prioritise wellbeing can sometimes feel like an uphill battle. However, RCP London Events recently demonstrated that with a bit of determination and camaraderie, even the busiest of teams can embark on a journey toward improved health and teamwork.
Ahead of Stress Awareness Month, members of our event team enthusiastically participated in the Unique Venues of London (UVL) Walk the Thames Path Challenge, a virtual walking event designed to promote physical activity and employee engagement.
The Thames Path Challenge is a captivating 180-mile journey along England's iconic River Thames, stretching from its source in Gloucestershire to the majestic Thames Barrier in London. RCP London Events joined 13 other venues to track their progress as they passed by famous landmarks and picturesque landscapes, all while fostering a sense of teamwork and healthy competition.
Throughout February, seven of our team members from the Meetings and Events team split between two teams, ‘The RCPLE Walkaholics’ and ‘All About That Pace’, laced up their walking shoes and hit the pavement. Despite their busy schedules, they dedicated time to connect with colleagues outside the confines of their events environment.
And the results? Nothing short of impressive:
- Collectively, RCP London Events and other participating teams covered a staggering 2,445 miles
- The RCPLE Walkaholics alone traversed an impressive 254 miles, exemplifying their dedication to the challenge and their wellbeing
But it wasn't just about the miles logged; it was about the positive impact on employee motivation and energy levels.
Statistics show that 85% of employees who participated in similar challenges felt motivated to move more with their colleagues, while 72% reported increased energy levels and productivity.
The team echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the challenge encouraged them to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines and fostered team unity.
Nicola Winfield, Senior Meetings and Events Planner, says: “Doing the walking challenge was great, not only physically but mentally. As a competitive person I felt like I was really encouraged to get out and try and compete with the other teams, as well as enjoying the outside especially on the sunnier days.
“Additionally, whilst getting some exercise in for the day, it certainly helped my mental wellbeing to take some time out from the working day, as I would feel encouraged to go out during my lunch break and switch off from work. On the weekends I took the time to take longer walks and visit parks that I wouldn't usually go to and it was fantastic to see some of the beautiful surroundings that were local to me.”
As the teams crossed the finish line, they were not only rewarded with a sense of accomplishment but also with tangible benefits through a partnership with Total Active Hub. The hub incentivises employees with tree planting rewards, not only encouraging individuals to lead healthier lifestyles but also fostering a sense of purpose and environmental stewardship.
Throughout the challenge, our teams planted a total of 44 active trees, 22 per team. All the teams across the challenge planted a total of 252 trees.
Congratulations to all the teams who participated and crossed the finish line. Your dedication to wellness and teamwork is truly commendable!
