You may be interested to know that the Royal College of Physicians will host the BBC’s prestigious Dimbleby Lecture 2010 next Monday 1 February. The lecture, the 34th in the series, will be broadcast on BBC 1 at 10.35 pm on the same day.
The lecture ‘Shaking hands with death’ will be delivered by the author Sir Terry Pratchett, who will explore how modern society needs to redefine how it deals with death. You may be aware that three years ago Sir Terry revealed that he was suffering from a rare form of early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
We are of course very pleased to have been chosen by the BBC to hold one of its landmark broadcasts, which will be attended by many leading figures. Previous Richard Dimbleby lecturers include the Prince of Wales, Bill Clinton, Dame Stella Rimington and Dr Rowan Williams.
The event takes place in our Dorchester Library, a location which, through its heritage and significant place in the nation's medical traditions, is an eminently appropriate setting for Sir Terry’s theme.
We do hope you will be able to watch such an important event for the College. If you would like further information, please access the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00qmfgn
